
I have to say that grocery stores in foreign countries are very interesting. You can always find something intriguing.
When my in-laws were here last month we ventured out to buy dinner and the boys convinced us to buy this. The name above it said
Pitahaya so that didn't help us figure out what it was. And my mother-in-law, the biologist and biology professor couldn't identify it.
So we took it home with the rest of our purchases. Now with such a beautiful exterior, one might guess that inside it would be just as colorful but surprise, it's black and white, the antithesis of its vibrantly colored outside. It doesn't have much of a taste, the texture is similar to a kiwi. And we found out that it is a
dragon fruit. I have always wondered what those were - seems like you see that flavor in tropical drinks, bubblegum, etc. And now I know what they taste and look like. Apparently they are the fruit of a cactus which is grown in Central and South America. You're welcome for your daily lesson in botany :)
