South Padre Island
With all the stress of moving and life we decided to take a quick break for some family fun time. So on Friday we headed off for Texas. After an hour in the car we had just passed out of Monterrey's city limits - yikes! Needless to say rush hour on Friday night out of town is much like sitting on I-75 northbound on the Friday before Labor Day (you Michiganders know what I mean)! We were heading straight into some heavy rain and just as darkness began to fall we hit a stretch of road full of crater sized potholes. It was horrible driving, Joe is sure we were airborne a few times and I think our tires need to be realigned. The boys think that next time they would like to be wearing helmets to drive down this road. When we finally got to the tiny border town where we anticipated a very quick crossing we came upon a huge very slow moving line (or shall I say parking lot). Apparently with the storms and lightening, their computers had crashed and it was taking forever to process each car. After we finally crossed back into the states, we meet up with our friends and ate dinner - at 10:30 - I think that is even late for Mexicans! We still had a 2 hour drive after that to Brownsville. We got stopped on the way by the cops - imagine their confusion on approaching a car with Mexican plates and finding a very white man driving it with a Michigan license and claiming to own the Mexican car! Anyways, they just wanted us to clean our plates off - apparently they were covered in mud - can't imagine how that happened! Saturday morning we drove over to South Padre Island. The boys had a blast playing in the waves with our boogie boards. It was a pretty steamy day so the water felt great. We all got a little sunburned but it was worth it. On Sunday we went to church in Brownsville and happened to meet the mother of a friend of ours that we knew in Monterrey 12 years ago! After church we ate at Sonic (one of our favorite places) - yeah for cherry limeade slushes! Then did a little shopping and headed home. It was a great little weekend trip.

Good to hear things are going well. The pool didn't get as much of a workout this year without the boys around. Ice Cream Social was a few nights ago and people were asking about the boys.
Our new neighbors are nice. They left cookies for us! I thought it we were suppose to welcome them?
Tyler says hi.
Hey Stanelys - what's your email address? The boys would love to email Tyler. Mine is jenvanhooser@gmail.com. We miss you guys too!
Hi Jen!
I don't know who misses you guys more, me or Tyler!
It's definitely different, but life goes on, I suppose. I'm happy to hear that you are settling in.
