Roofs R Us
Last weekend our family added yet another roof job under our belts. I was thinking back and counted 10 roofs that we have been involved in roofing since we returned to the states 9 years ago! And the boys have been actively involved in helping on at least half of them. We were working on our church's service center this weekend. My family constituted half of the work force and I was the only girl up there - what is wrong with that picture? We have a church of 500 or so members and we can only get 8 - 10 workers!? Anyways, we worked really hard. Anthony was an awesome helper - working really hard. Zac on the other hand mostly got in the way and made me constantly worry (he is easily distracted). Although it turned out that I was the most dangerous member of our family (this time anyways). As I was standing up after nailing a few shingles at the end of a row, I leaned on my nail gun to help me get up (I'm not as young as I used to be ;) ) and thus depressed the safety at the same time as I had my finger on the trigger (always at the ready) - and a nail went flying. The guy I was working with jumped up, checking to make sure there were no nails in him, and I was sure I had heard a ping from down below - where the church van was parked. Thankfully no one and nothing was hurt but it sure was funny, so I went down to where Joe was and had to tell him about my oops. He didn't understand how I had depressed the safety so as I was demonstrating my technique - I shot out another nail - this time right at Zac who was sitting nearby! It didn't get him but by that time we were all dying of laughter and someone offered my roofing partner a Kevlar vest. This weekend we have to finish up the roofing - I think I might have to pay someone to be my roofing partner!

You guys are awesome! Joe has helped us so much with different random projects. You can add our roof to your list of jobs since I learned how to roof at the Torch Lake cottage from Joe and he also let us borrow EVERYTHING necessary to do our roof at home! Glad there were no fatal injuries from flying nails!
