MCYC Farm House Renovation

Well, this is my first time posting to the blog, so I'm struggling a little. Since Jen mentioned the camp remodel, I thought I would elaborate a little.

When we started this project in mid-December, the plan was to do a few simple things; new kitchen, a few new windows, new flooring, etc. Of course, as is always the case with remodeling projects, the scope has changed significantly.

The floors in the kitchen and dining room were sagging quite a bit. So Kevin had a foundation guy out and ended up replacing the foundation under that part of the house. Of course, the dining room had a cement floor in it. Half of the floor had to be taken out when the foundation was put in, so then we had to remove the rest of the floor and dig out a crawl space.
There were actually a couple of chimneys in the house, none of which were installed on a foundation, they were just resting on the walls. In the living room, this caused some very significant bowing of both the main floor and the upper floor. We put a beam in the basement to jack up the floor, but just weren't having much luck, so I decided to remove the wall and start over! I finally finished that wall yesterday. Below are a couple of pictures taken yesterday before I started work. You can see where the new floor will be in what was the dining room.

For those that are familiar with the house, the floor plan is changing significantly. The new kitchen is going where the back bedroom used to be. The new dining room will go where the back family room was. The new master bedroom will go where the kitchen used to be.

As you can tell, there are a lot of changes which means a lot of work! I'm planning on working Saturday, Tuesday, and Thursday at least until the framing is all complete. The next big part of the project will be removing and rebuilding the two exterior (old) dining room walls. I'm always looking for help if anyone is interested. Just call the camp and talk with Kevin to verify that I'll be there before coming out.

Joe, I admire your committment to the camp. It definitely has a "near and dear" place in your heart. It is certainly fun to now see the boys enjoying the camp and being a part of helping you. I understand Anthony likes the destruction end of the job on the house and Zack finds about 10 minutes of work enjoyable before he is off to other things.
